
Sri Lanka men’s and women’s teams off to a winning start at the 28th ITTF – ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championship which is now in progress in Bhubaneswar, India.
At the men’s team event Sri Lanka beat Kyrgyzstan 3-1 in their group 1 first game while Sri Lanka girls’ team defeated Mongolia 3-0 in their group 1 game yesterday to get good start in this highly competitive Asian TT championship .
According to the ranking Sri Lanka men’s team is at 15th position while women’s team is at 16th position.
In the men’s team event Sri Lankan made good battle against Kyrgyzstan but Nimesh Ranchagoda couldn’t win his first single game. The men’s team skipper Chameera Ginige came to the winning track making hard fought 11-6,4-11,11-5 and 11-7 win over Moldaliev Tilek to equal the game. Chanul Dulsen continued winning form to beat Sagyndykov Azamat 3-2 and Sri Lanka secured the victory with third single played by Chameera Ginige who played anchor role to finish the game to get 3-1 win over Ergeshov Azamat and finally Sri Lanka led 3-1 over Kyrgyzstan.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka women’s team beat Mongolia 3-0 in their first group game. Tamadi Kavindya 3-2, Skipper Bimandee Bandara 3-1 while Lesanya Sethumdee 3-2 win over Mongolia paddlers to get 3-0 victory in their first game.
China and Japan are top ranking teams of men’s and women’s team event while 22 countries are taking part men’s team event and 20 countries are taking part in the women’s team event.
