Sri Lanka’s national gymnastics team departed for Indonesia today to compete at the 53rd World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, to be held in Jakarta, with a senior-category lineup of one female and two male athletes, coached by Ranjana Tharanga.
The Sri Lankan delegation features:
- Nuyara Nisindi Fernando (16), from Lyceum International School, Nugegoda — currently women’s national champion
- A. D. Nadila Nethviru (20), from St. Benedict’s College — national champion
- M.M.P.T.B. Nawarathna (20), from Dharmaraja College, Kandy — male senior representative
Coach Ranjana Tharanga leads the trio with aspirations to showcase Sri Lanka’s rising gymnastic talent on the global stage.
The team will compete in the senior divisions, marking a significant opportunity for the athletes to measure themselves against world-class competition. The inclusion of Nadila and Nuyara, both current national champions, underscores Sri Lanka’s depth of emerging talent in women’s gymnastics.
This is a landmark participation for Sri Lanka, as the athletes aim to gain experience, exposure, and elevate the country’s presence in the international gymnastics circuit.
Sri Lanka wishes the trio success and hopes their performances in Jakarta will pave the way for further growth and recognition of gymnastics back home.
