Sri Lanka Cricket has announced the appointment of Lasith Malinga as Consultant – Fast Bowling Coach for the National Men’s Team.
The former Sri Lanka pace spearhead will serve in a short-term role of one month, from 15 December to 25 January 2026, as part of the team’s preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
During his tenure, Malinga will work closely with Sri Lanka’s fast bowlers, focusing on their preparation, skill development, and tactical execution, with particular emphasis on the demands of T20 cricket.
Sri Lanka Cricket aims to draw on Malinga’s vast international experience and his globally acclaimed mastery of death bowling, one of the most critical aspects of the shortest format, to sharpen the team’s competitive edge ahead of the global event.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India, is scheduled to begin on 7 February 2026, with the opening match set to be played at the SSC, Colombo.
