Volkswagen Strengthens Sri Lanka Presence with Launch of All-New Taigun and Virtus

COLOMBO – Volkswagen has reinforced its commitment to the Sri Lankan market with the launch of the all-new Volkswagen Taigun and Volkswagen Virtus, marking a significant milestone in the German automotive giant’s journey in the country.

The two new models were officially introduced by Continental Cars & Commercials Pvt Ltd, the authorised importer of Volkswagen passenger vehicles in Sri Lanka, during a grand launch ceremony held at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall on May 28.

The event attracted senior representatives from the Volkswagen Group, diplomats, government officials, business leaders, media representatives, and automotive enthusiasts, highlighting the significance of the launch for Sri Lanka’s automotive sector.

The introduction of the Taigun and Virtus reflects Volkswagen’s renewed focus on Sri Lanka and its strategy of offering premium German-engineered vehicles tailored to the evolving needs of local consumers. Guests at the launch were treated to product showcases, executive presentations, cultural performances, and digital displays highlighting Volkswagen’s global reputation for engineering excellence, innovation, safety, and design.

The launch was carried out in collaboration with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd, the regional manufacturing and operational hub for Volkswagen Group brands in India. The company oversees the Indian operations of several globally recognised automotive brands, including Škoda Auto, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, and Bentley Motors.

Managing Director and CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd, Piyush Arora, described the launch as an important step in Volkswagen’s regional growth plans.

He noted that Volkswagen continues to represent innovation, engineering excellence, safety, and timeless automotive design, adding that the partnership with Continental Cars & Commercials will help deliver globally benchmarked products and premium customer experiences to Sri Lankan motorists.

The Volkswagen Taigun enters the market as a premium compact SUV designed to offer a blend of performance, versatility, and advanced technology. Powered by Volkswagen’s renowned TSI turbocharged engine technology, the SUV features a digital cockpit, intelligent connectivity systems, advanced safety features, and spacious interiors that cater to both city driving and long-distance travel.

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Virtus has been positioned as a premium sedan that combines elegant styling with refined comfort and cutting-edge engineering. The model offers responsive turbocharged performance, sophisticated interior craftsmanship, modern digital connectivity, advanced safety technologies, and a smooth driving experience aimed at customers seeking a premium sedan.

Chairman of Continental Cars & Commercials Pvt Ltd, Heinz Reuter, described the launch as a landmark achievement for both the company and Sri Lanka’s automotive industry.
