THESSALONIKI, GREECE — Ukrainian sambo athlete Khrystyna Krysan delivered an outstanding performance at the World Cadets, Youth and Juniors SAMBO Championships 2026, claiming gold in the women’s under-59 kg category and silver in the under-54 kg division on Day 1 of the competition in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The women’s youth finals took place at the PAOK Sports Arena, where athletes from across the world competed for medals at one of the major international events on the youth SAMBO calendar.
Ukraine Celebrates Multiple Podium Finishes
Krysan was among the standout performers of the opening day, earning two medals across different weight categories. Her gold-medal result in the under-59 kg division highlighted Ukraine’s presence in the women’s youth competition.
Ukraine also secured additional podium finishes through Oksana Maliuta, who won bronze in the under-47 kg category; Karina Raus, who claimed silver in the under-72 kg division; and Anastasiia Maiduda, who earned bronze in the under-80 kg category.

Champions Crowned Across Seven Weight Categories
The women’s youth competition featured seven weight categories, from under 47 kg to over 80 kg, showcasing the skill and determination of emerging sambo athletes.
Russia’s Valentina Navnyko (47 kg), Anna Drachevskaia (50 kg), Stefaniia Kirillova (54 kg), Virineia Maksimova (65 kg), Evelina Perevozchikova (72 kg), Ekaterina Iagch (80 kg) and Aleksandra Repiakh (over 80 kg) also featured among the gold-medal winners.
The results reflected the international depth of the competition, with athletes from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Serbia, Croatia, Turkmenistan, Bulgaria, Mongolia and Romania also securing podium places.
Thessaloniki Hosts the Next Generation of SAMBO
The World Cadets, Youth and Juniors SAMBO Championships 2026 are taking place from October 2 to 4 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The event brings together 713 athletes representing 40 countries, with 55 sets of medals scheduled across the championship programme.
Krysan’s double-medal achievement provides a significant highlight for Ukraine on the opening day, while the remaining competition days will bring further opportunities for athletes to compete for world titles.
