The All-Island invitation schools’ hockey tournament 2025 for under-14 boys and girls, organised and conducted by the Matale Hockey Club to mark the World Children’s Day, will be worked off at the two venues Edward Park and the Astro turf in Matale on 4-5 October, commencing at 8 a.m. each day.
The two-day hockey championship with IOC Lubricants as the main sponsor will be played for the Servo Challenge Trophy.
According to Matale Hockey Club President Chathura Dissanayaka, 24 boys and 18 girls teams representing leading hockey playing schools across the country have already confirmed their participation.
The teams will be equally divided into four boys and girls groups with the two top teams of each group moving into the quarterfinals.
The two champions boys and girls are entitled to receive the Servo Challenge Trophy while the runners up of both segments will also receive trophies.
In addition, trophies are on offer for the Best Player, Best Goal Keeper and the Most Disciplined Team.
Vijaya College Matale and Seetha Devi College Kandy emerged boys’ and girls’ champions, respectively last year.
With this tournament which is the fourth in the series, the Matale Hockey Club intends to make hockey an entertaining and enjoyable sport where talented players can be identified.
