Igor Paixao scored his first goals for Marseille as they beat Ajax in the Champions League.
His first came when he latched on to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s pass to slot into the bottom corner.
The Brazilian forward netted again from 20 yards after Ajax captain Davy Klaassen carelessly lost possession.
Aubameyang provided his second assist of the game, poking the ball into the path of Mason Greenwood who finished from close range as Marseille went 3-0 up after 26 minutes.
Ajax conceded a fourth goal when Oscar Gloukh’s free-kick led to a Marseille counter-attack which was finished by Aubameyang.
Paixao is the first Marseille player to score twice in a Champions League game since Dimitri Payet against Olympiacos in December 2020.
Ajax had just two shots on target and were thoroughly outplayed by Roberto de Zerbi’s side as they suffered their second Champions League defeat in as many games.
