Kaya Daluwatte Secures Historic Gold at Faldo Series European Grand Final

Sri Lanka’s exceptional youth golfer, Kaya Daluwatte, clinched first place in the Girls’ 21 and Under Golf Championship, having delivered a magical and exceptional performance, at the prestigious Faldo Series European Grand Final, which recently concluded in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates.

The 17-year-old champion is recognized as one of the best local female players currently competing and is renowned for breaking golf boundaries and inspiring change through her unique skill and unwavering commitment.

Daluwatte’s Dominant Performance

Daluwatte finished the three rounds with a total victory score of 202 (-8) strokes. Her consistent rounds included scores of 68, 67, and 67 strokes.

The competition saw a tight battle until the final round. After the first two rounds, Daluwatte was tied at five-under-par (135 strokes) with Sweden’s Lova Jansson. Daluwatte carded rounds of 68 and 67 during the first two days, demonstrating her technical skill, growing competitive maturity, and disciplined course management.

In the crucial final round, Daluwatte continued her brilliance, while the Swedish golfer experienced a difficult stretch. As a result, Daluwatte secured the first position with a clear margin of seven strokes. Sweden’s Lova Jansson took second place with 209 strokes, while England’s Izzy Hurrion and Germany’s Anastasia Back shared the third spot, both completing the competition with 214 strokes.

Following Milestones in Bahrain

This victory adds to Daluwatte’s recent successes, which serve as a testament to her unique talent and determination. Just a few weeks ago, Daluwatte made history by securing Sri Lanka’s first ever medal at the Asian Youth Games held in Manama, Bahrain. At that event, she clinched a podium finish with 202 (−14) strokes, achieved through rounds of 69, 64, and 69. Her impressive career highlights the incredible potential of young women in golf, a sector that has been traditionally male-dominated.

Sri Lankan Boys’ Contingent

The tournament also featured other promising Sri Lankan golfers competing in the boys 21 and under segment.

Reshan Akash Algama, delivered an impressive start to his international showing. Algama finished the first and second rounds with scores of 70 and 68 strokes, totaling 138 and placing him tied for fifth at two-under-par at the end of Day 2. However, the third and final round proved challenging, spanning across 77 strokes. Algama ultimately settled for a joint 14th position with 215 (+5) strokes. Algama also previously made history at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain by becoming Sri Lanka’s first-ever male golfer to finish in the Top 10, where he clinched the 7th position.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s one-time Amateur Champion, Jevahn Mikel Sathasivam, who represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, had a tough day, shooting six-over-par and sitting at seven-over for 18th place with one round remaining. He failed to progress up to his expectations and was ranked in 22nd place with 224 (+14) strokes. The boys 21 and under segment was won by Michael Chuma of Zambia with 200 (-10) strokes. Chuma started the competition with a remarkable 61 strokes in the first round, which effectively secured his title despite a slight setback in the subsequent rounds. The 16 and under girl’s title went to Ai Goto of Japan (198 (-12) strokes), and the 16 and under boy’s title was clinched by Alexander Zylla of Australia (207 (-3) strokes).
