The Cricket Transformation Committee (CTC) of Sri Lanka Cricket has dismissed reports claiming that Olympic medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe has been removed from her position within the cricket administration.
CTC Secretary Prakash Schaffter clarified on Monday (1) that recent media reports suggesting Jayasinghe’s services had been terminated were inaccurate.
“There is no truth to claims that Susanthika Jayasinghe has been removed from the Sri Lanka Cricket payroll,” Schaffter stated, responding to speculation surrounding the former sprint star’s role within the organisation.
Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka’s only living Olympic medallist, was appointed three years ago as a consultant for the mentoring and development of women’s cricket under the administration led by former SLC President Shammi Silva.
While rejecting reports about Jayasinghe, Schaffter acknowledged that the Cricket Transformation Committee has reviewed several positions within the organisation and decided to discontinue the services of certain providers whose roles were considered no longer necessary.
However, he stressed that Jayasinghe was not among those affected by the restructuring process currently being carried out by the committee.
According to reports, the former athlete had previously received a monthly subsistence allowance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, which was later discontinued. Following that development, Shammi Silva is said to have facilitated her involvement with Sri Lanka Cricket in a consultancy capacity.
Jayasinghe, who spent a period living in Australia with her children, recently returned to Sri Lanka and has continued her association with cricket development programmes.
The Cricket Transformation Committee, chaired by former investment banker and politician Eran Wickramaratne, assumed responsibility for overseeing SLC operations in late April following the resignation of the previous Executive Committee.
The committee was established as part of ongoing efforts to introduce reforms and strengthen governance structures within Sri Lanka Cricket.
The clarification from the CTC is expected to put to rest speculation regarding Jayasinghe’s future involvement in Sri Lanka Cricket and her contribution to the development of women’s cricket in the country.
