The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has officially renewed the contract of national team head coach Abdullah Almutairi, reinforcing its commitment to long-term football development through the Federation’s ambitious strategic programme, “The Next Chapter.”
The contract extension was confirmed following discussions between FFSL President Jaswar Umar and Almutairi, with both parties aligning on the future direction of Sri Lankan football and the national team’s long-term objectives.
During the meeting, President Umar commended Almutairi for his dedication, professionalism, and the substantial progress achieved by the national team throughout his tenure. He also shared the Federation’s vision for the future and outlined the key targets set for Sri Lankan football in the coming years.
Almutairi’s first spell in charge is widely considered one of the most impactful periods in recent Sri Lankan football history. Under his guidance, the national team produced several impressive performances on the international stage and recorded a notable rise in the FIFA World Rankings, climbing from 205th to 187th.
The Federation’s decision to extend his contract reflects its confidence in the coach’s leadership, technical expertise, and ability to continue driving the national programme forward. President Umar’s swift move to secure Almutairi’s services highlights the trust placed in the coach to lead Sri Lanka into a new era of growth and competitiveness.
