Nuwara Eliya, June 6, 2026 – In a landmark move set to transform the administrative landscape of Sri Lankan football, the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) has announced a historic initiative to establish permanent office facilities for all its member leagues across the country.
The announcement was made by FFSL President Jaswar Umar during the Federation’s Annual Congress held in Nuwara Eliya, which brought together representatives from all 61 member leagues, over 250 delegates, football administrators, stakeholders, and members of the media.
The initiative forms a cornerstone of FFSL’s newly launched national development strategy, “The Next Chapter,” a long-term roadmap designed to elevate football standards both on and off the field while strengthening governance structures throughout the country.
Strengthening the Foundation of Sri Lankan Football
Addressing the Congress, President Jaswar Umar emphasized the critical role played by regional football leagues in nurturing talent and sustaining football development at grassroots level.
He noted that many leagues currently operate from temporary premises or private residences of office bearers, creating challenges in administration, record keeping, stakeholder engagement, and overall operational efficiency.
According to Umar, the new initiative aims to provide every member league with a dedicated administrative center capable of serving clubs, players, coaches, referees, and football stakeholders within their respective regions.
“Regional leagues are the backbone of football development in Sri Lanka. By providing permanent office facilities, we are not only creating professional working environments but also strengthening accountability, transparency, institutional identity, and long-term sustainability,” he stated.
Driving Professionalism and Good Governance
The proposed office facilities are expected to significantly improve governance standards throughout Sri Lankan football by enhancing administrative effectiveness, communication systems, financial management, and service delivery.
Football administrators believe the move will help establish stronger organizational structures within regional leagues while creating a more professional image for football administration at district and provincial levels.
The initiative is also expected to facilitate better record management, improved coordination with clubs and stakeholders, and greater operational consistency across all member leagues.
Unanimous Support at Annual Congress
The Annual Congress itself was regarded as one of the most successful gatherings in recent FFSL history. Representatives from all 61 member leagues participated in the proceedings, with every resolution presented before the Congress receiving unanimous approval.
The overwhelming support demonstrated a strong collective commitment toward the Federation’s modernization agenda and the implementation of reforms aimed at strengthening football administration nationwide.
Building the Future Through “The Next Chapter”
The office infrastructure project aligns directly with FFSL’s broader vision of building a sustainable football ecosystem that supports player development pathways from grassroots to national level.
By empowering regional leagues with permanent administrative facilities, the Federation hopes to create stronger links between local football structures and the national football programme, ensuring long-term growth and improved talent identification across the island.
