COLOMBO — Past Isipathana Hockey Club continued its remarkable rise through Sri Lanka’s domestic hockey ranks with a commanding 10-2 victory over Colombo Colts CC in its opening fixture of the Colombo Hockey Association B Division Tournament, signalling its arrival as a formidable force in the competition.

The match, organised by the Colombo Hockey Association, was played on 27 June at the Astro Turf, Reid Avenue, Colombo, where the newly promoted side produced a clinical attacking display to begin its B Division campaign in emphatic fashion.

The victory represents another significant milestone in the club’s impressive journey through the Colombo Hockey Association league structure.

Rapid Rise Through the Divisions

Past Isipathana Hockey Club’s progression has been nothing short of remarkable.

The club began its competitive journey in the D Division, where it enjoyed a dominant campaign by securing both the League Championship and the Knockout Championship, earning promotion to the C Division for the 2025 season.

Maintaining its impressive momentum, the team once again established itself among the competition’s leading sides, lifting the Knockout Championship while finishing runners-up in the League, achievements that secured promotion to the B Division for the 2026 season.

Their continued ascent reflects the club’s growing strength, consistency, and ambition to establish itself among Sri Lanka’s leading hockey institutions.

Dominant Opening Performance

Making their much-anticipated B Division debut, Past Isipathana delivered an outstanding all-round performance, overwhelming Colombo Colts CC with relentless attacking hockey.

Gihan Peiris starred with a superb hat-trick, while Mohamed Irshad, Naqib Zafarullah, Punsisi Keshan, and I.W.G. Asiitha were also among the goalscorers as Isipathana recorded an emphatic eight-goal winning margin.

For Colombo Colts CC, Tharathanan and Abeykoon found the net, but their efforts proved insufficient against a rampant Isipathana side that controlled proceedings from start to finish.

Strong Statement of Intent

The convincing victory sends an early message to the rest of the B Division that Past Isipathana Hockey Club intends to compete strongly despite being newcomers to the division.

Having earned back-to-back promotions through consistent performances over the past two seasons, the club has demonstrated both the quality and depth required to continue its upward trajectory.

With confidence high following an impressive opening-day performance, Past Isipathana will now look to build on its winning start as it pursues another successful campaign in the Colombo Hockey Association competitions.
